Have you ever wondered what kind of preparation goes into conducting the annual Bridgeview fireworks show?

To make sure the show runs smoothly, prep begins as early as 10:30 a.m. and doesn’t conclude until just before fireworks light up the sky at 9 p.m.

Since fireworks are dangerous and can cause injury if not used with caution, weeks of planning are required to ensure the safety of the crowd as well as those putting on the show. Permits and approvals are handled by the Bridgeview Fire Department which oversees the operation.

Prioritizing safety, the Bridgeview Fire Department wets all nearby plants and cuts excess foliage to prevent any accidental fires. Debris from fireworks is expected and controlled, as the cannons holding 3- and 4-inch shells are carefully aimed away from the crowd in accordance with the Pyrotechnic Use Act. If anything were to go wrong, the Department would stop the show immediately.

The fireworks are lit via an electric match system connected to a control panel that shows any arising issues. This system makes it possible to ignite individual fireworks, adding precision and remote control. This modern setup also reduces the risk of accidental ignition compared to traditional fuses, and any undetonated fireworks are safely launched after the show to ensure no live explosives remain.

The Bridgeview Fire Department continues to ensure that every 3rd of July fireworks show is safe, fun, and successful.
