Hip hop and rap fans poured into Bridgeview’s SeatGeek stadium this weekend for the annual Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival. Organized by American music video director and record executive Cole Bennett, the three-day event ran from June 20th through June 22nd to kick off the official start of summer in Chicagoland with hot beats and sweet drinks. The biggest musical draws included headliners Don Toliver & Yeat, Future, and Young Thug who played for progressively larger crowds of tens of thousands of passionate concertgoers each night.
Major business and brand activations gave attendees plenty of unique experiences and free samples to enjoy as they explored the sprawling festival grounds encompassing the stadium, artificial turf fields, and the air-conditioned sports dome. McDonald’s Chef’s Remix offered a shaded lounge and a chance to watch a professional chef at work making upscale McDonald’s meals. Pepsi’s lemon-lime flavored soda and successor to Sierra Mist—Starry—provided free drink samples, photo-op displays, and high-energy lemon and lime mascots that danced and delighted everyone in the area. The fan-favorite “Sinners” booth put silver fangs into people’s mouths, giving them a taste of the unholy dangers imperiling the twin brothers played by Michael B. Jordan in the popular 2025 horror movie.
When attendees had enough of soaking up the sun, they hit up the various food vendors. Portillo’s, Bacci Pizzeria, Seoul Taco, Bobalicious, Eiffel Waffle, and Dippn Dots were just a few of the options ranging from mouthwatering barbeque to tasty frozen treats. Those much-needed calories served as fuel for the concertgoers dancing, moshing, and taking selfies at the performances held at each of the three stages. Lucky Summer Smashers may also have seen celebrity attendees Nardwuar, North West (daughter of Kanye West), and Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams as they roamed the festival grounds!
To beat the heat, the Bridgeview Fire Department brought out a misting truck that cooled the crowd. The Chill Dome and free water stations throughout the festival grounds added to the hydration and relaxation experiences that kept concertgoers refreshed.
Friday night closed with Don Toliver and Yeat bringing the heat as they traded time in the spotlight. The two collabed on three songs in the past and brought their musical chemistry on stage after parachuting into the stage area together for a one-time exclusive performance with the backdrop of waterfalls and pillars of fire.
Future, the star ahead of his time, burned brighter than a supernova as he literally burned the house down on his flame-engulfed stage Saturday night. His “Superhero” “Type Shit” left the crowd wanting more even after his hour-long set capping a hot day.
Finally, the most anticipated and noteworthy artist, Young Thug, finished Sunday off with lasers, a ring of fire, and fireworks lighting up the stage. Fresh out of prison, this was the first time Thug performed since 2022 and will lead into his international tour. Tens of thousands of people crowded around the stage cheering, phones in the air, trying to record videos of the bombastic performance. Thug played all his biggest hits, with high-energy beats and calmer, emotional moments varying the hour-long performance. He also moved dynamically throughout the set, singing from the glowing ring poised at the top of the stage, dropping down and strutting the walkway jutting into the crowd, and even rising into the sky via lift. The most crowd-pleasing part of his performance undoubtedly came from the surprise special guest appearances by Ken Carson, Future, and the most exciting artist—Travis Scott—who performed “FE!N” with Thug and brought fans from back of the crowd running to get as deep into the waves of hyped-up concertgoers as possible.
Three hot days of art installations, sponsor activations, and hip hop performances—including a set by Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper—left fans with another unique Summer Smash festival experience. After another year of success, Summer Smash announced it will be returning to Bridgeview’s SeatGeek Stadium in 2026!
