After a weekend of heavy rains, the skies cleared and the
sun shined bright at Commissioners Park for Bridgeview Park District’s annual
Independence Day celebration Monday, July 3rd. The weather was
perfect for the sizable crowd that enjoyed the incredible fireworks display. The
celebration kicked off at about 5:30pm where families could be seen eagerly scoping
out the area, looking for the perfect spot to set down their lawn chairs and
blankets. Fortunately, for all those who arrived early, the Bridgeview Park
District made sure there was plenty to do before nightfall.
Pizza, tacos, hot dogs, sandwiches, and other delicious
foods from vendors stood at the ready for hungry attendees. Crowd favorite DJ
Mike returned this year to MC the event, and energized the crowd with music. The
Bridgeview Boy Scouts Troop 13 presented the colors and raised the flag. Children
of all ages took full advantage of the expansive, recently installed playground
equipment to play basketball and go down the giant slide. Many others could be
seen playing soccer, catch, and other outdoor games across the field.
Once twilight set in, Commissioners Park glowed red, white,
and blue as dozens of children and adults held on to glow sticks and other
Independence Day themed glow products. From 81st street to St.
Fabian Church the park was filled with smiles, laughter, inaudible
conversations, and loud music until about 9:15pm when a warning shot cracked
the sky. A few moments later, the Independence Day Firework Show was on full
display, blasting into the sky for 24 minutes straight. The firework finale
drew massive cheers from the crowd.
Year over year the Bridgview Park District delivers an
amazing fireworks display, and if you missed it this year we highly encourage
you to make plans for next year. We hope you enjoyed your Independence Day
2023!
