Bridgeview, IL (May 29, 2024) – The 2024 National Rugby Team American Series will take place Friday July 5th, 2024 at Seat Geek Stadium at Seat Geek Stadium in the Chicagoland suburb of Bridgeview, Illinois. The middle-of-summer bash will feature the USA National Team, the “Eagles,” competing against Romania in a historic battle that will sign off with a postgame fireworks display.

In 1919, US Army General John J. Pershing organized the Inter-Allied Games, a multi-sport event which took place in Paris. One of the matches was USA vs Romania. Five years later during the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, the USA matched up again with Romania.

In honor of the 100-year anniversary of the Paris Olympic Games, USA Rugby and AEG Rugby are bringing a revival of “The Pershing Cup” to Chicagoland as the USA teams takes on Romania once again.

“We’re thrilled to be back in Chicagoland, where USA Rugby has been fortunate to host some major events in years past, with a great community of fans and supporters,” said USA Rugby CEO, Bill Goren.

“Chicagoland rugby has been growing year after year with the Chicago Hounds of MLR venturing into their second season and a very strong club participation scene that has us excited for July. The July 4th holiday brings a whole new level of life to this national event, with some patriotic celebrations fans can expect to see at Seat Geek Stadium.”

The 2024 American Series is presented by USA Rugby and AEG Rugby and will feature four action-packed international test matches featuring the USA.

Matches will be held across the country, and the series kicked off April 28th as the USA Women’s National Team took on Canada in Los Angeles at Dignity Health Sports Park (home of the annual LA Sevens event).

The next installment will feature the USA Men’s Eagles taking on Romania in Chicagoland on July 5th; the USA battling #6 ranked Scotland in Washington, D.C. on July 12th; and the series finale will take place August 31st back in Los Angeles as the USA Men’s Eagles match up with their northern rivals, Canada.

“We are very excited to be hosting this historic competition between the USA team and the Romania rugby team at SeatGeek Stadium,” said Bridgeview Mayor Steven Landek.

“This rematch of two teams that competed 100 years ago reminds us of how important sporting competition is to our citizens and our nation. Seat Geek is an international destination that brings competitive sports to America’s heartland.”
