The Chicago Hounds fought fiercely against Old Glory DC at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday, May 11th. Residents who took advantage of the FREE tickets experienced a fun nail-biter match that was made all the more enjoyable by the dog day themed match.
Guests who took advantage of Dog Day roamed freely on the stadium grounds with their canine companions, and some collected Hounds-themed dog treats, bowls, and handkerchiefs before taking their seats in the designated area. For those who didn’t bring a pet, PAWs Chicago was on site with a few cuddly critters available for adoption.
The exciting rugby game kicked off at 5pm kickoff with both the Hounds and Old Glory DC eager to settle the score after their draw earlier this season. The first half ended 14-13 with the Hounds leading after an intense back-and-forth and amazing performances by the Hounds outside center Bryce Campbell and center Cassh Maluia, a former NFL player.
Old Glory proceeded to turn the tables on our beloved home team, scoring multiple penalty kicks and gaining a 14-22 lead. The Hounds, however, never gave up. Fighting to the bitter end, Hound right wing Mark O’Keeffe forced through a try, and Hound Adriaan Carelse once again made the conversion kick. When the dust settled, the score stood at a shocking 21-22 loss for the Hounds, showing how competitive these two teams were. The adrenaline-filled game nevertheless proved to be a real crowd-pleaser that has left fans looking forward to the next match. The Hounds’ record currently stands at 5 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, placing them at a solid 5th position in the league out of 12 teams.
