Runners dash through the starting line inside the stadium!

On Sunday, April 27th a 5-kilometer charity run known as the Humanity 5K kicked off at SeatGeek Stadium at 9AM. Hundreds of people from across Chicagoland came out to support the cause and earn official 5k times at the chip-timed event. Starting and finishing at Bridgeview’s Stadium, runners ran down 71st St. from Oketo to Beloit, Beloit from 71st to 78th St., 78th St. from Beloit to Thomas, Thomas from 78th to 75th St., 75th St. from Thomas to Oketo, and Oketo from 75th to 71st St.

Many people chose to join the 3.5k walk instead of running, enabling families to get exercise by walking around the outskirts of the stadium. At 10AM the Humanity 5k held the 100-yard Kids Sprint for children who wanted in on the athletic action. Each age group of boys and girls had the opportunity to show off their speed with a quick dash on the Stadium Field that left the kids breathless and smiling. Runners, walkers, and sprinters each enjoyed the delicious post-race hummus, falafel, and other foods as they waited for the 5k winners to be announced.

Businesses, community organizations, volunteers, and attendees together raised $80,000 to help people in need. Thank you to residents for working together with the Village of Bridgeview to ensure the safety of all runners and residents during the Humanity 5K.
