The Bridgeview Police Department and the Chicago Ridge Police Department recognize the importance of traffic safety and continue to dedicate efforts toward enforcement of violations that typically cause crashes.
Between October 1 and October 23, officers from both agencies worked 100 hours exclusively targeting violators along Harlem Ave between 92nd and 103rd Street. The cost of this traffic enforcement was reimbursed through the Illinois Department of Transportation Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant.
Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha and Chicago Ridge Police Chief James Jarolimek announce the results of their officers’ efforts:
– Total traffic stops: 292
– Traffic Arrests: 6
– Speeding Citations: 96
– Seatbelt Citations: 22
– Distracted Driving Citations: 64
– Other Citations Issued: 76
– Total Tickets Issued: 258
As a result of this enforcement effort, both agencies report a significant reduction in traffic crashes respectively, with Bridgeview reporting 33 less crashes and Chicago Ridge reporting 19 less crashes, compared to the month of September.
Additionally, Chicago Ridge announces the implementation of a newly configured traffic light at 99th Street and Harlem which will now include a turn on arrow only. This measure was sought to reduce the traffic crashes relating to vehicles turning onto 99th Street from Harlem Ave. Both agencies will continue to work together with other law enforcement agencies to keep traffic safety a priority.
