Village of Bridgeview Illinois
Dedicated to Community & Public Service
The Village of Bridgeview Police Department recently brought more than 75 illegal guns to the Public Works Department to be destroyed. While many other municipalities sell confiscated guns after investigations are complete, the Village of Bridgeview chooses to destroy the weapons to prevent them from returning to the streets and endangering the public. The process for destroying illegal guns requires requesting judicial permission to do so, meticulously documenting every weapon before its destruction, and documenting every weapon after destruction to confirm each one is inoperable. A variety of guns were destroyed, including handguns, shotguns, assault rifles, and more. The Public Works Department carefully used blowtorches to cut through metal guns and a steam roller to crush the remaining polymer guns.
“This effort helps ensure illegal weapons remain off the streets permanently, highlighting the Village of Bridgeview’s commitment to public safety,” said Trustee Norma Pinion, head of the Police Committee.
