ATTENTION BRIDGEVIEW DRIVERS—The Village of Bridgeview is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to increase safe driving enforcement efforts across the state in recognition of “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” this April.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,308 Americans in 2022, highlighting that using a cell phone while driving creates enormous potential for deaths and injuries on U.S. roads.

Illinois prevents the usage of handheld electronic communication devices while driving unless using hands-free mode. To keep your attention on the road, remember these tips:

  • If you are expecting a text or need to send one, pull over and park your car in a safe location.
  • Ask your passenger to be your “designated texter.”
  • Do not engage in social media scrolling or messaging while driving.
  • Cell phone use is habit-forming. Struggling to not text and drive? Activate your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” feature.

The Village of Bridgeview encourages everyone to drive safely and avoid handheld phone use while driving to keep our children, residents, and community safe.
